서울산책 / 서대문형무소역사관

 

서대문형무소역사관은 근현대 우리 민족의 수난과 고통을 상징하였던 서대문형무소를 보존하여 국민들에게 역사체험의 현장으로 제공하기 위해 설립된 박물관입니다. 서대문형무소는 국권 침탈을 시작하면서 일제가 만든 시설로, 1908년 경성감옥으로 만들어진 이후 독립운동가들과 민주화운동가들이 옥고를 치르고 희생당했던 곳입니다.

5월 산책에서는 대한민국의 독립과 민주를 향한 투쟁의 역사가 담긴 서대문형무소역사관을 둘러보고 우리나라의 과거를 한 번 더 되새겨보는 시간을 가져 보겠습니다.

Walking around Seoul / Seodaemun Prison History Hall

Seodaemun Prison History Hall represents agony and pain of Korean citizens in modern history of Korea and was established to provide a historical experience to the public by preserving the original prison site. The prison was built by the Japanese in purpose of pillaging Korean sovereignty. Many of Korea’s national and pro-democracy activists who fought for independence were sacrificed since 1908 in this very prison.

On May’s “Walking around Seoul,” we will have an opportunity to visit the Seodaemun Prison History Hall where it is full of desire of Koreans who were fighting for independence and democracy during that period. We hope this visit to be a memorable one and also a precious time to rethink about Korea’s history.
